Pick-Your-Own Farm Experience

What’s even better than a farmer’s market for fresh produce and a fresh experience?

Pick-your-own farms! You’ll get the freshest, most flavorful fruits and vegetables for less money.

Even better, it’s a memorable and delicious way to spend time with friends and loved ones.

My husband and I took our toddler son to pick blackberries for the first time this summer. (It was my first time too!)

We enjoyed hunting for juicy, ripe blackberries among the blackberry bushes and filling up our pint-sized berry baskets.

My son could have picked blackberries all day. He loved the experience and now he knows where blackberries come from!

Our harvest consisted of the juiciest blackberries I’ve ever tasted. I never knew they could get that juicy.

We ended up leaving with six pounds of fresh blackberries for just $18! That’s a lot less than what we would have spent at the grocery store or farmer’s market.

What did we do with all those blackberries? We snacked on them, gave some away to our neighbors and family members, and my son and I baked blackberry cobbler together.

Besides blackberries, you can pick-your-own blueberries, apples, peaches, raspberries, strawberries, corn, tomatoes, and more depending on where you live.

For All Ages

Don’t think that a pick-your-own farm experience is just for young kids and their parents or grandparents. While we were at the blackberry farm, we talked to a teenager and her dad who have a tradition of going every year. We also saw couples and a group of middle-aged female friends.

Thoughtful Gift Ideas
  • Shared outdoor experience or annual tradition
  • Give fresh picked fruit away
  • Make homemade desserts to give away (Ex. cobbler, pie, muffins, ice cream, etc.)

P.S. If taking children, make sure they don’t wear nice clothes. Fruits like blackberries will leave a stain. I learned this the hard way.

The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice.
