Money Tie – Creative Gift for Him
Normally, I would say to stay away from giving neck ties as gifts. Nine times out of 10, it shows lack of effort and creativity on your part. Unless… it’s a money tie!
A money tie makes a memorable and creative gift for him on birthdays, graduation, Christmas and Father’s Day. You can give it by itself or pair it with a button down shirt.
Don’t worry. They’re easy peasy to make. If you can fold and tape, you can make a DIY money tie gift in just minutes!
HOW TO MAKE A MONEY TIE
Items you will need:
- cash (new bills looks the best; iron older bills to make them crisp)
- printed tie template (download letter size or download legal size; print on cardstock)
- tape
Instructions:
1) Take your first bill, fold down the top and bottom, and wrap it around the very top of the tie template so that the face is centered. (The $1 bill looks best at the top since George Washington’s portrait is framed). Fold the two ends of the bill around to the backside of the tie template so that it can’t be seen from the front. Tape the ends down to the backside of the tie template. (It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t look pretty on the back.)
2) Take your second bill and center the face directly below the first bill. Repeat steps one and two. Do the same for additional bills you’ll need to cover the rest of the tie template. Slightly overlap the bills.
TIP: If and how much you fold the tops and bottoms of the bills will determine the length of your tie. It may or may not match up exactly with the template so adjust as necessary.
3) For the very bottom of the tie, fold a bill like this.
4) Tuck it under the last bill, and tape it in place with the tape hidden. You’re finished!
This is what the front should look like.
TIP: Trim the end of the tie template as needed so it doesn’t show.
The back will look something like this.
Wouldn’t it be funny if someone actually wore their money tie? I would love to see that!

I totally agree that money ties would be a creative gift for the men in our lives. My father would love this idea, but I also want to give him something that he can wear. It might be a good idea to do this and then wrap another handmade patterned tie in a separate gift box.

Wrap the money around a real tie. Then they would have an extra surprise. You might need some stuff card stock to help.
