Elephant & Piggie Books

When my son, Aiden, turned either one or two years old, he received Elephant & Piggie books for his birthday.

Before then, I had never heard of Elephant, Piggie or their author and illustrator–Mo Willems.

Well, Mo Willems is a children’s book genius and his books contain a unique style!

It wasn’t long before I ordered more books to add to our new collection.

Mo Willem’s Elephant & Piggie books are filled with simple drawings that allow the words, facial expressions and body languages to stand out and make the story come alive.

The books also touch on important life lessons that children should know such as how to be a good friend, how to be kind, how to be patient, how to share, and how to work together to solve problems.

Award Winning Book Series

Several of Mo Willems’ books have won prestigious awards, including the Theodor Seuss Geisel Medal. Before he wrote children’s books, he worked as a writer on Sesame Street.

Jump & Stomp Rockets | STEM Toy Gift

Toys that get kids active outside grab my attention. They are a double whammy because they combine fun and physical activity.

jump-stomp-rockets-stem-toy-giftThe latest ones I’ve found are called Jump Rockets & Stomp Rockets, and they’re 100% kid powered!

Run, Jump & Stomp to Launch Rockets

Kids run, jump, and stomp to launch foam rockets up to 400 feet in the air!

They quickly learn that the higher they jump and the harder they stomp, the higher the rockets fly into the air.

Sounds like a blast, right?

This toy gift has an ADDED BONUS.

STEM = Stomp Rockets

It’s a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) toy that teaches kids about force, gravity, trajectory, and power of air.

This gift can inspire children to go into a STEM career building rockets or becoming an astronaut!

Gratitude Journal | Record Life’s Blessings

They say an attitude of gratitude can change your life. Now research backs that up.

gratitude-journal-blessings-thoughtful-giftPositive psychology research has found a link between gratitude and greater happiness.

According to Harvard Health Publications, “Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.”

Couldn’t we all benefit from more of those things?

Although our lives may not be perfect, we all have blessings we can count. Now, take it one step further because writing down our blessings can increase our level of happiness!

Gratitude Journal

Gratitude Journals make it easy for people to reflect upon and record what they are thankful for every day.

They help people focus on what they have instead of what they don’t have, which leads to a daily attitude of gratitude.

Clever First Birthday Gift

- - Birthday, Kids

When my son, Axl, turned one year old, my father arrived to the birthday party with the most clever and thoughtful gift!

It didn’t come wrapped up with a big bow or in a gift bag with tissue paper like the other birthday gifts.

Because it actually wasn’t for my son…

Clever First Birthday Gift

It was for his parents – my husband and me. It was a gift card to a local restaurant with a handwritten message that read:

Happy Birthday from Axl
Thank you for having me!

A gift “from my son” to his parents so we could go on a date night. Talk about a thoughtful twist to a first birthday gift!

Keep It Simple | Office Birthday Gift Ideas

I work in an office of nearly 100 employees and someone is having a birthday just about every other day.

Birthdays are listed on a monthly employee calendar which make it easy to send a birthday wish by email. But there are times when you want to recognize a co-worker’s birthday with a birthday gift.

keep-it-simple-co-worker-birthday-gift-thoughtful-gift-ideaEven though there are five different departments at my place of employment, we all work together from time to time and get to know one another’s likes and dislikes.

Favorite Cereals

This year, Jody came up with a great idea for Tiffany’s birthday. Tiff LOVES cereal and eats four bowls a day!

On the way to work the morning of Tiffany’s birthday, Jody picked up two boxes of Tiff’s favorite cereals, Froot Loops and Frosted Krispies, with a half-gallon of milk.

Jody tied it all together with a ribbon and when Tiff saw the gift sitting on her desk, she was thrilled! Continue Reading

Bicycle Gift for All Ages

Waking up Christmas morning to find a bicycle under the tree is a memory that lasts a life time!

Receiving a bicycle as a birthday gift also makes for an exciting and memorable moment.Who says the fun has to stop when we become adults?

Our grandparents surprised my brothers with new Schwinn Sting Ray bikes for Christmas in the 1960s. They went everywhere on themnew-bikes-thoughtful-gift-ideas and rode from morning until dark. Many of you who are Baby Boomers remember doing this too.

My husband and I purchased bicycles in our early married life. We would ride through neighborhoods looking at new houses and wondered, “What do people do to afford $35,000 homes?” That sure was a looooong time ago!

When my son was almost one year old, I told my husband I wanted a bicycle with a baby seat for Mother’s Day. Dustin loved riding with me. It was a wonderful way to exercise especially carrying that extra weight–not mine–my baby!

The last bike I received was for my 59th birthday from my mother. It happened to be one of the last gifts she gave me before she passed away. It’s pink because my mother thought it was the perfect color for her daughter! Continue Reading
