14 Days of Love Notes for Valentine’s Day

- - Valentine's Day

Do you know what makes a holiday better? The anticipation and excitement leading up to it!

14-days-love-notes-valentines-day

Valentine’s Day is coming up soon. Here is a fun way to use the first 14 days in February to show someone how much you love, cherish and appreciate them. Do this for children and adults!

The Many Reasons Why I Love You

People often say “I love you” but they often don’t go into specifics about what exactly it is about the person that they love. Telling someone the many reasons why you love them is much more powerful and meaningful.

So here’s what you do that I call 14 Days of Love Notes.

Instructions:

Cut out 14 paper hearts. Starting February 1, write a love note or affirmation on a heart every day and tape it where your Valentine will be sure to see it. It could be on their bedroom door, on their bathroom mirror, or different places around the home. Continue writing on a paper heart every day for 14 days.

Tip: I used red and pink construction paper and taped it to my son’s bedroom door with painter’s tape so it wouldn’t damage the paint.

Your loved ones will enjoy reading your daily expressions of love!

Say Thank You with Pocket Praise Cards

- - Business

We often focus on the big moments in life, when it’s really the little moments that mean the most.

This is definitely true when it comes to appreciation.

Small acts of appreciation mean a lot–such as a handwritten thank you card. They let people know that who they are and what they do matter.

A thank you card takes time to compose. A person has to write several sentences to fill a traditional-sized thank you card.

What if you only had to write one phrase or sentence and it was still meaningful?

That’s the beauty of Pocket Praise cards!

Spread Positivity With Pocket Praise Cards

Pocket Praise cards are small note cards that spread encouragement, gratitude and positivity when handed out in the workplace.

Their small size of 3.5″ x 2″ makes it quick and easy to write a handwritten thank you card. It only takes a minute to recognize someone for a job well done!

“You Raise the Bar” Meaningful Gift

There are gifts that make you happy, and there are gifts that feed your soul because they are deeply meaningful.

you-raise-the-bar-meaningful-giftQueen Darlene gave me the most thoughtful birthday present this year.

She gave me a necklace with a silver bar with my initial “d” cut out of it. It was cute by itself, but let me tell you about the meaningful, heartful part…

In the card, she wrote to me:

You’ve Always Raised the Bar

“Diana, You’ve always raised the bar! And, no one can come close when you set your mind on whatever you choose to do! You are your own kind of incredible and that’s something to celebrate my precious friend!”

My First Library | Baby Shower Gift

- - Baby Shower

We all have our favorite childhood books or the ones we enjoyed reading aloud to our own children.

If you’re like me, you love certain titles so much you want other children to read them and fall in love with them too!

When thinking about what to give my best friend for her baby shower gift, I wanted it to be meaningful and special. I reflected on what things my two boys really liked when they were babies and also what things I really enjoyed as a new parent… Definitely books!

Certain books I’ve read to my boys more than 100 times so I decided to give her copies of the children’s books that were favorites in my own family.

I picked out a cute wooden crate and glued painted wooden letters that spelled MY FIRST LIBRARY.

Honor Someone With a Charitable Gift of Purpose

A local charity I support, Sunbeam Family Services, offers meaningful holiday gifts with purpose. They’re perfect if someone you know has everything and doesn’t need any material things.

By purchasing one of their gifts, a person honors the gift recipient while donating to a worthy cause. It’s a gift you can both feel good about!charitable-gift-purpose-donation-thoughtful-gift

The charity offers a wide variety of gifts at a range of prices that support different programs for the needy. Other charities sell similar “gifts” that fund their own cause.

For $15 you can buy school lunches. For $75 you can purchase a backpack filled with school supplies. For $30 you can purchase meals for homeless seniors. For $50 you can provide shelter for one homeless senior. For $500 you can provide shelter for 10 seniors.

By giving friends and family gifts that have a positive social impact, you’ll be making a difference in people’s lives.  Continue Reading

Best Way to Come Up With a Going Away Gift

- - Going Away

There are few thing harder than saying goodbye to a friend. An exception might be picking out a going away gift.

They can be tricky. That’s probably why Hallmark doesn’t have a “Going Away Gifts” aisle in its stores.

Here’s my #1 rule for going away presents – give something that means something.

meaningful-going-away-gift-present-thoughtfulIf your gift item doesn’t hold special meaning, then there’s no point in giving it. Your friend doesn’t need more stuff to haul in the moving truck. It’s full as it is!

The best way to come up with a meaningful going away gift is to reflect on your friendship and HOW you spent time together.

What was your “thing?’ Did you bond by going to the movies, eating at new restaurants or attending your favorite team’s sporting events?

Now, think of a gift that ties in with what you enjoyed doing together.

If you liked going to the movies or out to eat, you could get a gift card to a movie theater or a popular restaurant where he or she will be living. If you liked attending sporting events, you could get him or her new fan gear, maybe even buy yourselves matching shirts or hats! You could also frame a photo of the two of you at a game.

My friend Beth and I loved dressing up to go out to eat, drink and dance. We also bonded by volunteering with Girl Scouts.

Regifting | How I Gave a Repurposed Gift in a Meaningful Way

Have you ever repurposed a gift? Yep, I have! Ever told the recipient that it was a repurposed gift? I recently did!

It was a book titled “Cationary Meaningful Portraits of Cats” by Sharon Montrose and purrrfect for my friend.

My husband and I have started talking about downsizing. Retirement is on the horizon, and we want to have more with less! More time to travel, less time working in the yard. More time for hobbies, less time cleaning the house.

More time for everything we want to do and less time doing the things we don’t want to do. You see a pattern? Continue Reading
