TableTopics Conversation Starters

Great conversations bring people closer together.

tabletopics-conversation-starters-holiday-giftWe might learn what makes someone happy, places they want to visit, funny stories from their past, or what makes them tick. When we get to know someone better, our relationship deepens.

Many great conversations begin with great questions. TableTopics make it easy to start fun and memorable conversations with family and friends.

TableTopics is one of Oprah’s “Favorite Things” and is the #1 best-selling conversations starters.

With the holidays coming up, we suggest bringing TableTopics to your next family gathering or dinner party.

It’s the perfect host or hostess gift and it’s calorie-free!

The Giving Plate | A Heartwarming Tradition

No one likes to show up to a social gathering empty handed. After all, the more food the merrier!

Make a lasting impression by giving the host or hostess a gift called “The Giving Plate.”

The heartwarming tradition of The Giving Plate is that you bake a treat and present it to someone on the plate. The recipient could be a friend, family member, church member, neighbor, teacher or co-worker. Once the treat is gone, it’s time for the gift recipient to pay it forward by passing The Giving Plate to someone new.

The Giving Plate makes for an especially touching gift during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

You can find a variety of styles of The Giving Plate on Amazon.com or you can find other designs on Etsy.com. If you’re artsy, you can make your own using food-safe porcelain markers or paint pens on a blank plate or platter.

The Giving Plate I like contains this special message that explains the tradition in a beautiful poem.

The Giving Plate

This plate belongs to everyone
wherever it may go… with each new sharing
of its gift, the love and blessings grow,
So fill it up and pass it on to
family and to friends… to start
the circle one more time,
love’s journey never ends.

Win 50 Gift Bags in Celebration of our One Year Anniversary!

- - Catch All

gift-bags-giveaway-sunburst-gifts

Last Thanksgiving, Queen Darlene and I launched Sunburst Gifts with the goal of making the world a happier place one thoughtful gift idea at a time.

After jumping into the blogging world with both feet in (not knowing exactly where we would end up), we’re so happy we took this risk!

We love ALL of it. Brainstorming gift ideas, writing posts, taking photos, shooting videos (the bloopers are a bonus!), and there for a while making television appearances on KSBItv.com and showing the world how to give gifts with a (say it with me now!) “thoughtful twist!”

We’ve even expanded and recently launched our gift consulting service just in time for the holidays where after we learn the exact gift giving needs of clients we provide them with three custom thoughtful gift idea proposals.

The support we’ve received from family and friends during the past year motivated us to continue week after week. Thank you to everyone who expressed to us they liked or used our gift ideas, who subscribed to our blog, who liked and shared our Facebook posts, and who provided us with gift ideas to use.

And thanks to YOU our loyal readers.

You’re a part of our journey here at Sunburst Gifts, and you played a part in getting us to our one year anniversary!

Breaking the Turkey Wishbones | Thanksgiving Tradition

- - $20 or Less, Experiences

httpvh://youtu.be/EWjAgmUJckA

If I close my eyes, I can still remember Grandma’s house and the delicious aroma of Thanksgiving dinner filtering from her tiny kitchen. Like so many other families, every year there was discussion of who would be the lucky two people to break the turkey wishbone.

Queen Darlene & Jody making a wish!

It was a big event at the end of the meal to watch who would win the biggest part of the bone and declare a wish!

I had no idea of why we did this ritual of breaking the wishbone, so for this post I researched it. Did you know that the Thanksgiving tradition of breaking a wishbone dates back over 2,400 years?

The Etruscan people believed that fowl could predict the future and the chicken’s collarbone was thought to be sacred. Seriously?!?! Wishes were made by rubbing on the bones in hopes of bringing good luck. (Maybe I should try this on my next lotto ticket purchase). Thus, the “wishbone tradition” began. Continue Reading

Let It Be Known That This is My First Blog Post Ever

Queen Darlene (Darlene Drew) co-founder of Sunburst GiftsUnlike Diana, I do not have a favorite holiday. New Year’s, Valentine’s, the holidays you are off work, Easter, Birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and everything in between are all equally wonderful to me.

My family celebrated on every occasion because it was deemed important that family and friends get together to share stories, have fun, laugh, give gifts, take pictures, give hugs and kisses and genuinely show love for each other.

You see, for most of my life the only way my family could communicate was face to face. My grandparents on both sides were deaf, as well as my parents. There were no computers, video phones or cell phones to text. You could not call to wish someone a Happy Birthday or Thanksgiving. You physically had to be there in order to communicate through sign language.

Thanksgiving | My Favorite Holiday

- - Catch All

Princess Diana (Diana Rogers Jaeger) co-founder of Sunburst GiftsSince college, my favorite holiday has always been Thanksgiving. Why? Because people don’t give presents. I know that sounds silly coming from the co-author of a gift ideas blog but hear me out.

Instead of giving presents on Thanksgiving, people give their TIME to spend with their family. Nothing says “I love you” or “You are important to me” more than taking time to sit, talk and laugh together.

But the gift of time is abstract. You can’t see it or touch it. So that’s why there are many occasions where we want to SHOW someone we love them and care about them with an actual gift. Something they can physically unwrap.
